Treat your taste buds to delicious tapas and wine on this Barcelona food tour. You'll indulge in local cuisine as you go from one tapas restaurant to another, making your way across the city. Meet your English-speaking guide in front of the Art Centre Santa Monica at the bottom of the Ramblas, near to the Drassanes metro station, before setting off on a Barcelona food tour like no other.
Head away from the touristy spots and into local neighborhoods, like the once-notorious no-go-area Raval, which nowadays features of old medieval buildings, a unique blend of ambitious new architectural projects with the traditional, multi-ethnic life of the barrio. Just a stone's throw away, you will enjoy the first tapas experience of the evening in an informal, old bodega from 1903, where we'll start tasting a filling bomb and a nice glass of red wine.
The next place awaits us as we navigate our way through one of the most beautiful squares of the Gothic Quarter and its adjacent small streets that still retain their old medieval ambiance. Our next stop is a bar with a beautiful, secret garden where we'll taste Spanish ham and pa amb tomaquet (bread with tomato) accompanied by a nice white or red wine (as you do!). From there, our Barcelona tapas tour continues as we cross the old heart of Barcino, the name given by the Romans to the city that they founded more than two thousand years ago, where we will identify four columns from old Troy and the transformations that the Old Town experienced.
Next up is a hidden, charming, typical Bodega from the first third of the twentieth century, where you can have a vermut (vermouth) and indulge in their exotic croquettes. Then, on the way to the next place, we'll see some of the oldest businesses of Barcelona (one from 1761), the Roman Walls, the Cathedral, or even a giant work by Picasso before vanishing again in the labyrinth of narrow streets.
We'll walk now in an old brewery from 1897 which currently is one of the most beautiful and famous establishments of Barcelona, not to mention the Catalan Art-Nouveau building it is located on.
It is actually the high relevance that Art-Nouveau has in Barcelona that will draw us into our final spot, a cafe located in a UNESCO World Heritage building where we'll experience a sweet end of our tour.
Throughout this Barcelona tour, as you delight in the discovery of new tastes, flavors, and dishes, your guide will give you insights into local gastronomic specialties and anecdotes of the city's history and local neighborhood life. Eating tapas is one of the best things to do in Barcelona, no doubt about that, and a great way to connect with the daily lives of the locals. Mr. Bonner has over a decade of experience working in the cruise industry in a variety of roles for both Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Viking River Cruises. Most recently, Mr. Bonner was the Chief Operating Officer for The Scholar Ship, a Royal Caribbean program aimed at providing college students onboard educational programs in conjunction with enriching shore excursions around the world.
